I totally dig the 4002 except for the bridge. Put a Schaller on there and I'll take out my wallet.  (I know it's not for sale) I don't know what those pickups are, but I'd go for two "hot" toasters.

The 4002 does have a "neck" pickup in the middle position. Just like the 1992 and later Les Paul basses.

With the J pickup layout the neck (middle) pickup is more focused and the bridge pickup is more Jaco-esque. Many have waited for the 4002 to become a production model, not so much for the checkerboard binding, ebony boad, birdseye maple or low impedance output of the '77 model, just for the industry standard J layout. It wan't possible since 1985 when Rickenbacker has switched from the hairpin rods to compression rods requiring access from the body end for removal or service until recently when they've switched to single rods that don't require access routs at the body end. The Al Cisneros model also has a J/4002 pickup layout.

But those lacked a true neck pup in my book too, I thought the pups too far back!  They changed that on the later worn satin, BFG and oversize LP models btw which I preferred for that reason.

Spare me with 'Jaco'esque' bridge pups, I hate that bony-skeletal sound. The worst thing about Jaco was his sound.

Probably why Ric used "Super Humbuckers" on the 4002 instead of their usual button-tops.
