The Jazz Bass was the bass version of the Fender Jazzmaster but what if...

What if it were the other way 'round.

This is an ESP signature model for a guy called Inoran.

And it has a kind of "I-can't-tell-you-if-like-this-or-not" looks.

What do you guys think?

Weird. ESP makes a few Fenderish hybrids, like a 4-string version of the Bass VI. And now this... I don't know what to think.

Nice how they kept the "big knob = volume, small knob = tone" theme.

I kinda like it. Squier could make such a guitar, cos they also make a guitar version of a Tele bass.

I don't really like it as a Jazzmaster, but it is kind of whacky kool as a Strat.  It really is too much like a Strat with Jazz Bass vibe than any real Jazzmaster vibe.  The first Jazz Basses had the big mungo Jazzmaster pups, so I don't like the Strat pups or bridge if looking at it as a Jazzmaster pulled more to the Bass side.

He should make those strat basses with a 24 fret 30 scale necks, that way the bridge will be at the proper location.

I know this because I outfitted a Strat body with a Danelectro longhorn neck and didn't need to move the bridge.

Most are 30.5" necks I believe.  21 frets though. Even though the body looks like a Strat it is custom made and bigger than a normal strat guitar body.

Proper? Why do you think putting the bridge in the same location as a Strat is proper? He doesn't want to make them look like Strat guitars, he just likes the body shape and the idea of using it for a short scale bass.

I don't think so. I know who makes his bodies and necks and AFAIK it's a standard Strat body and a neck machined to his specs.

Jimmy tells me that there are 2 guys in Sydney with his basses. I am very keen to try a few of the different configurations he has. I love my trusty ol' Jazz bass but age and arthritis in my left pinkie are causing me to play my short scale basses more for a lot of finger per fret down near the nut  songs. Its only gonna become more of an issue so alternatives must be sought.

I will eventually get an EB3 for the same reason, and the fact I love the sound and feel of the necks. Jimmys prices seem very good to me. Shipping costs to Oz suck from the US and I really would prefer playing them to find out what i liked most before buying.  Hopefully I will get over to the States in the next few years. Then I will definitely drop in and check some of these planks first hand.
