The ferrules (is that regular washes?) on the back are'nt recessed so the string ball ends are sticking out. Also a careful placement of the jackplate.

Good, sensible complementary idea for this remarkable piece of American hardware.

Yeah, but the bridge (unfortunately) exists while this alleged moon landing event is debated.  :rimshot:

Excuse my ignorance, I'm a newcomer, but what exactly is the problem with the bridge? Why does everyone hate it?

I would compare it more to a dog that keeps chewing your slippers. You wish he didn't do it but you still love him none the less. Incidentally the guy who I asked to design me a new two point for my EB-1 hasn't returned my last two e-mails. I'll be picking up the phone shortly.
Contrary to what James Bond says, a good Gibson should be stirred, not shaken.

Thanks to the wisdom of American engineers - no Wernher von Braun to prevent the worst -

the two point had nothing to withstand the string pull of the strings anchored in it, all the force pulled the unlucky contraption forward. This could have been prevented with a string holder or string through body anchoring or just a flat bridge base resting on/screwed to the body rather than the two forlorn posts holding the bridge in midair. The bridge could have handled the downward pressure of the strings swell - just not the forward pull towards the nut.

Alas!, it was not to be. Even though Dave claims otherwise, but we have yet to see the prototype from the Gibson labs that could have prevented the "tiptronic" bridge from following its natural inclinations. Instead, by 1972 Gibson saw the errors of its ways and presented the holy immaculate trinity bridge. Everything was good from then on.

The 2-point on my slothead EB-0L seems to handle the string pull very well.

So did mine, and so did my current EB-0 (although I've put a Hipshot 2-point on it). Then again, I'm using low-tension tapewounds and you're using extra-light flats. I have seen them tip forward and even deform under high tension strings.

Even if you have the problem, a small screw centered under the front of the bridge will keep it from tilting forward.

Sounds like Gibson's tribute to the Ric tail lift.

I have the bar bridge. Intonation is close enough, and it works nicely. Never detected a problem with it.

And it's not just a visual thing - it creates issues with intonation, action and string to saddle pressure. Doubleplusnotgood, nein.

Dave put a Hipshot on his EB-0?

No doubt a highly secret operation.  :-X  And akin to a TV evangelist - the preacher of the two point no less - being caught in bed with young boys! What else is next?

Naw, that is just cute with Rics, an endearing imperfection, like Cindy's mole. And where else are you gonna stick your extra pick?

The two point tiptronitis is plain disconcerting in comparison.

It's no secret, I wrote about it here when I installed it, shortly after I bought the bass.

The action wasn't where I wanted it with the two-point. It's fine with the Hipshot.
