New to the Board. Sorta...
« on: August 29, 2008, 02:07:32 AM »
Hello there folks,

Just wanted to post and say "Hello".

Been lurking for a while now,
but finally got around to registering.

It's good to see a lot of names I recognize from around the web
and look forward to talking bass with you all.

Especially my EB3 project-

Is that one of those new collapsible basses that Billy Mays is advertising on TV?

Thank you all for making me feel so welcome!
Yes, it seems like I know most of you from "another life"
or at least another board or two...
 ;)

Now on to the good stuff!

What are you're plans for her?

Welllll, since you asked...

This was my first bass back a couple of decades ago.
Bought for me by Mom in near minty condition for $350.00.

We grew up together,
learned many a Iron Maiden songs,
went on to college to played jazz together
and gigged through the 80s-

Long story short(er):
It was lost during a break up in 1989
and was spitefully given away by my ex to her nephew.

19 years later I get it back in this condition,
gutted and broken,
when he found me in April through MySpace.
(He had stopped midway while "pimping it out"...)
 :-\

Since all vintage value is gone,
(He tossed all that "old stuff". Oy!)
I've been collecting new parts, mostly from eBay, to bring it back to life.

I am down to finding a bridge that will fit the existing two holes from the original Bar Bridge.
That and a gloss neck pickup ring were the toughest for me to locate.
My thanks to Bob (ramone57) for helping me with that piece!
Any advice/help with the bridge would be greatfully appreciated.

My goal is to give it to my son
(who also plays)
for his 16th birthday next year.
Which would be the same age I was when I got it.

So far I've reglued the headstock,
unplugged the pickup and bridge holes,
repaired the shattered input jack
and done a lot of sanding.

I'm going to give it a natural cherry satin stain
and then a friend is going to give it a black 'burst and clear coat.
I'd like the 'burst to continue up the back to cover the repairs.
Similar to this-

Sorry for the long post,
but I've obviously had some time to think about this project
and I figured this would be the place to share the tale...
 ;D

Hi' Gonzo! Nice to see you again. Two point bridges do come up from time to time on ebay as you probably have seen but mostly they don't come with studs. The discontinued Schaller 460 almost fits. That means it fits with minor adjustments (the slots in the bridge are a tiny bit too wide but it can be fixed).
