Leo Sayer had a glimmer of recognition when I was in school as he turned up on the reality TV show Big Brother, and made an arse of himself. Cue lots of ribald juxtaposing of an angry middle aged man with archive clips of him in mime makeup singing in a virtual falsetto.

This is a gorgeous interpretation of a Sayer work:

Are these the guys from Argent backing Roger?  :o

Depeche Mode are a great band, the only New Wave synth band that prevailed over for what is now 45 years, almost half a century.

It's a bit David Bowie Berlin phase/Peter Gabriel'esque, isn't it? But amazingly rendered.

My wife Floor is in a new band. She already sings lead in several bands. But in this new band she does backing vocals. With the two ladies (Lilian and Marloes) that also sing with her in the Etta James Experience and in Stapled.

Lilian takes care of the lead vocal in this new band: Mother Factor.
A tribute to Mother's Finest.

This promo was filmed during their try-out concert, a few weeks ago.

Nice! Killer vocals throughout. I'm surprised Mother's Finest is even known in your part of the world.

Haha, you're not the first American that says this
I think they used to be bigger in The Netherlands and Germany than they ever were in their homeland. Their Rockpalast concert from 1978 is legendary. Made them huge stars overnight, in Europe.

Something to be said about their popularity in various parts of Europe. Their live album even got published here (former Yugoslavia) at the time. I still own it and consider it one of my favourite live albums of all times.

Meanwhile, my wife who grew up in the States had absolutely zero idea about them... :)

Our radio stations and TV networks were also somewhat less confused/discerning about a mixed-color band doing funked up rock or rocked-up funk, a conundrum that apparently overwhelmed US formatted/segregated radio and TV shows that either catered to white rock or black soul fans.  8)

broke the hitherto unknown band in Europe in 1978 - following the Europe-wide broadcast, people stormed the record shops on the next Monday.

Floor and her girls are doing great in that vid, Rob.

Mother's Finest is the kind of music Glenn Hughes should have been doing if he had ever brought himself to end his flirtations with his Purple heritage, heavy metal (collaborations with Iommi) and AOR. It's the music that would have been truest to him.

Blissful. And then those colorful pants - muscular buttocks + bulges in the right places, naked male torsos, male cleavage up to the belly button, cropped knotted tops with South American style puff sleeves ... what's not to like?! Grand Funk epitomized the more cerebral aspects of American culture. Classy.

In that specific song the keyboard was way out of tune unfortunately.

But in other songs the band was pure dynamite:

They had just flown over from America to Europe for the first time for that gig, voltage differences between US and European current were likely to blame, they can affect keyboards real badly and detune them.
