Ah, I rather miss George Goebel, Garry Moore and his sidekick Durward Kirby.

But I loved the Dean Martin Show and the Danny Kaye Show. They were always great!

I found there's a series of the Danny Kaye Shows on YouTube.  This one has Dick Van Dyke...

"Did you ever get the feeling that the world was a tuxedo and you were a pair of brown shoes?"

George at his best.

His signature Gibson is still one of the best looking guitars ever, imho.

No big deal here. Just a pre CBS Jazz bass with a maple fretboard in gold sparkle with matching headstock. I wonder if Doyle held on to that bass or if it ended up in some museum. I'd imagine it could fetch a lot of money on the open market. Interesting that he went over to a Precision bass later on.

Contrary to what James Bond says, a good Gibson should be stirred, not shaken.

Champagne sparkle, to be exact.

Redd Volkaert might know. I remember a discussion at TDPRI some years ago where he mentioned knowing a collector who owned some of Don and Doyle's gear.

Those buckaroo sparkle finishes lead you to a big rabbit whole. Some are saying they used busted up mirrors in the finish. I came across one forum where someone said the Jazz bass disappeared in transit during shipping. Would be awesome to see it resurface some day.

Another brilliant minimalist Dadaistic goody from the Mael Brothers which in this place will of course be ignored in the same way as anything else I have posted here regarding the Sparks in the past ...  :-\

AFAIK the sparkle finishes were done with metalflake, same as automotive metalflake finishes. B
Usually, from tiny bits of chromed aluminum. I really doubt that any broken mirrors were used.

"Broken meerors" please, let's be accurate. Paul pronounces mirror "meeror" (01:26), it has to rhyme with "nearer" (01:23):

Artistic license, like AC/DC's, "Yes I are!"

I acknowledge your post about the Sparks, and now I have already subsequently forgotten about your post ;)
Sadowsky fan/owner, and collector of amps/cabs for no good reason

My mother pronounced it "merrow." Only other person I've ever heard pronounce it that way was singer Carl Butler, also a Southerner.

OMG, you're (well, almost ...) as nasty and spiteful as your dad!  :rimshot:

Forever an absolute mystery to me, how you Yanks can so completely disown the brilliance of your own Mael Brothers and their Art Deco oeuvre.
