Got this one in today from the FedEx guy.  Low 6 digit serial number and a blank plank maple fretless neck!  I'd not seen one before, just the typical lined rosewood board FL models.  This one doesn't even say FL on the headstock.  It has dots on the side where the frets would be ala Rickenbacker.  Still need to do a setup and I want to change the Nylon strings to something I like better.  Possibly TI Jazz Flats in extra long scale.

Non-blade pickups, that's an early one. Cool bass, I like blank maple boards.

Here's a very young (19) and short-haired me, 1981, with my T40:

Wow!  Beautiful bass, hope it weighs less than a 20" spare wheel/tire combination....

I haven't weighed it yet but it feels heavier than my 12 pound Kramer 350B aluminum neck bass. :o

With the growing popularity of vintage T40's, I hope someone will offer <5lbs. replacement bodies for them. Maybe even chambered, <4lbs., to bring the assembled bass to under 9lbs. How difficult is that?

As long as it balances well, that's what matters.

Pilgrim

I like the look, but balance isn't everything. It's a too heavy for me, but I hope it works well for you!

Thing of beauty! Been a T40 fan since they came out.

I love those basses, have a fretted one myself, but do consult with your spine too!

Flash thought: Ilan, so you did have a haircut once after all?  8)

@Uwe: I was in the army when that pic was taken (1981) so I had to have my hair short. By the way, I had a haircut this Sunday:

Ah, fringe (no pun intended, I know you dislike them) benefits of the I.D.F. then!!!
