I only found out about these guys when they hit Colbert. Their bass player is FAST and has a great sound.  I'm digging these guys a lot! They do some very nice slow stuff, but it's their rockin' stuff that gets me.

Sturgill Simpson is proof that country music is alive and well. I've loved him ever since hearing his cover of "The Promise" on HBO's "The Leftovers," which is an equally excellent show.

I noted the Gretsch BillyBo guitar in the video I posted.  Looks like the personnel in the band has shifted around a bit over the last couple of years.

I had not heard of him until KUTX started playing his cover of In Bloom.  So last April I bought the A Sailor's Guide To Earth LP on vinyl.  I need to check out his earlier stuff as I hear it is very good.

I've just heard them and JD McPherson recently - I LOVE this tune of McPherson's....going to add it to our sets.

I gained two new bands this week!

Head over heels: Höfner?

I just looked it up.  That bassist seems to be known for playing upright and a 1967 Hofner President bass.  I found it on HofnerHounds and some other places.

In some of the videos there is a hollowbody bass that (now that I think of it) looks like a Hofner.  He seems to play the upright most of the time, and on numbers like firebug he's playing it DARN fast!
