I decided to delve into Gibson basses again, and picked up something to keep my Thunderbird company - a 2012 SG Standard bass:

I've been kinda wanting one of these for a while now, made an offer on reverb, and it got accepted... I'm waiting for some fresh strings to come in, then I'll gig it a bit...

Nice! One of these days I'll get a shortie :)
Resident T Bird playing Drag Queen www.thenastyhabits.com  "Impülsivê", the new lush fragrance as worn by the unbelievable Fräulein Rômmélle! Traces of black patent leather, Panzer grease, mahogany and model train oil mingle and combust to one sheer sensation ...

Figured I'd get one before they went up even more in price... I *was* going to by a Special on GC's used pages for $550, plus tax&shipping - but it sold before I pulled the trigger, lol... So, this one was on Reverb for $700 plus $60 shipping - I offered $550 plus the $60 shipping, and they took the offer... Then, I held my breath 'til it came in, but everything worked out - it's practically new, with the OHSC - and didn't get damaged or lost by FEDEX on it's way up to NY from NOLA..

I'd still like an RD Artist to replace the one I let get away, but that probably won't be happening...

These are great basses - mine is 8 years old now and has about 300 gigs on the clock in our Stones tribute band.  I was a reluctant embracer of shorties when I joined this band, but now I get along well with them.
Cheers

Yeah, so far it looks like a keeper - I'll know more after I get some decent strings on it and gig it a little... Even though the strings on it are beat, it still took a setup pretty well - nice straight neck, very good fretwork, and everything works as it should... One of my bands is a classic rock/southern rock trio - I can see myself persuading them to play some Cream, lol...

Congrats.
Now go dust off your Andy Fraser / Jack Bruce / Allen Woody skills!

And maybe end up playing some music like this--

And that's even the model with the nice (and good) bridge!!!

That's the GFP bridge (glutton for punishment). Fortunately there are options.

Nice stuff, but I doubt any of the bands I'm playing in will do anything like that... I *could* see some Cream, Free, and Govt. Mule, though...

Yeah, I had a Hipshot Supertone on my T-bird, but took it back off in favor of the original 3 point... I may try the new Babicz full contact, as the Supertone left a sizeable footprint - we'll see...

To be honest, I think my T-bird sounds better with the original 3 point than it did with the Supertone... I have a black Supertone I'll be selling, that's still like new, actually...

That's true.  Something like that would be very rare now.  I just posted it because it shows Jack in a non-Cream context, but when he was still playing the EB-3.  Cream is probably my favorite band, but anyone who does an EB-3/SG type video now usually starts it off with the obligatory "Sunshine of Your Love" riff.
