You're in good company here.

I find my Fenderbird to be a great sounding bass.

Barklessdog:  I forgot to mention that your excellent extreme cutaway Fenderbird was the only project I could find on the Internet for a long time while I was searching for a clue...  It kept my spirits up, knowing that somebody loved these things as much as me, and was able to get the job done!  If (actually, when) I make a black one with a white pickguard, I want to ask your permission to use the cool logo you created for your pickguard.  --Rikkimax

WOW, I just saw the Blazerbird, and it was sweet!  I will stay in touch as my project moves forward.

Just a note here, should I move over to the projects page with my Fenderbird, or continue to discuss it here???

We'd love to have you come over to the "Projects" forum if you'd like.

AAAAHHH, that minty green guard again . have not seen that for a while.  Bigbird would look cool as a buzzard a la muppet.....

Here are the latest pics.  The main coats are now being applied.  Ron at HMR Guitars says that this process will take a long time, as he waits for each coat to completely dry and shrink before applying another coat.  Each coat goes through a heating and cooling cycle.  Also, Ron says that the clear coats are mixed with and applied with the color coats.  That way, if there is a ding that needs to be filled, you don't have to apply separate color and clear coats, but just fill the ding with the same color/clear mixture.  --Rikkimax

It's actually more orange, but the pics above definitely look like fiesta red!  You can get a good idea of exactly what the finished project will look like if you look at DC10bass's post further up the string.  I have some more pics that I am going to post when I get back from vacation next week.  The headstock decal has been applied, and the "Custom Made for Rikkimax by HMR Guitars" sticker is now on the back of the head, awaiting a clear coat tomorrow!

Thanks!  I'm really pleased.  Can you see the orange ATA case I got for it from the New York Case Company (you can just see the edge in the photo)?  It was quite reasonable.

I will try to get a shot of the entire case sometime soon!

Wow, that's looking great! I love that color and chrome!   I've got to do the Fenderbird thing once I got all my other projects finished.   yours is inspiring.
