Just picked up a 1990 Asat Bass.  The early ones had the slab bodies and the Leo signature decal on the upper horn.  I thought it looked great next to the 1977 Stingray bass.  :)

The music store/pawn shop that later became a Fender Dealer started with G&L in the late 80's and kept them until about 1995. I saw and played so many awesome G&L's, and they sold like crazy because their customers were all players. It was funny that when they switched to Fender after the local competitor who was a Fender dealer dropped FMIC and the players wanted the "real" Fenders back.

That is so cool! I had one once not my cuppa. But it wasn't signed by Leo!

I had a silver sparkle one years ago and they (BBE models) have the tummy cutaway.  I'd always wanted a full slab bodied one.  Jazz width neck but pretty fat front to back. I'm still dialing it in and may put some flats on it, which seems to be what I'm preferring now.  They did the Leo signature series on most of the models up until Leo's death in March 1991.  This one is from Feb/April 1990 by the neck/body stamps.  Has some heft to it at 9.8 pounds but much lighter than the 'Ray. (11.4 pounds)
