70ies/80ies Ripper/Grabber/G-3 cases don't fit Grabber II and G-3 Tribute!

Those Epi cases have some flexibility, they're not flight cases, you know. It'll fit and neither the headstock nor the neck of the Grabber 3 is anything less than sturdy. I had an Epi Non Rev case initially for my Gibson Non Rev (whose outsize headstock is much longer than on the Epis), the case was about half an inch short and the pre-owner had stuck wooden wedges in the upper compartment for the Gibson to fit - not the most artful thing to do, but it worked.

I took the risk and bought it. Will give a report as soon as it gets here. Thanks for the heads up on it, Uwe!

Well, that was a bust. It's long enough and wide enough as I expected (a little wider on the body cavity than the G-3, which isn't a real problem).
The bad part is that the case is for a hollowbody, which has a much deeper body than the G-3. So, the hollowbody is lifted up on the ass end making it sit more level in the case. The G-3, having a thin body, sits at a much more extreme angle so the headstock and tuners are so far up I can't even shut the case.

Options are to increase the padding under the body to lift it which would tilt the headstock down or to remove the neck support and storage compartment in the case and increase the depth of the neck support bringing the neck down.

It's a nice case, but turning it into something for the G-3 is yet another project and I've too many unfinished ones lying around as it is.

Grr.

I think it's a quick fix.  Carlo is the king of case remodels and posted on this several times.  I would think all you would need to do is pull up the bottom padding, carefully and cut a layer or two of high density styrofoam to lift the floor of the case. A shot of spray adhesive to glue back the pad and you're in bidness.
