AweSome's 3D-printed guitar offers 76 analog pickup tones

The company already offers the 76-tone modules for existing guitars and basses so that's nothing new. What interests me is the possibility of printing 3D guitars at home.

My Sonex is "resonwood" (aka masonite/MDF) so why not.  Better than 3D printed guns... oh wait.

It'll be a while before 3D printer costs come down enough for this to be a home project though, no?

Would it be cheaper or better than just CNC machineing a body out of actual wood though?

Robert Plant and Jimmy Page (drummer and bassist of Deep Purple, Jake!)

It's certainly cheaper in wood now. It may not stay that way if 3D printers drop in price as much as some are predicting.

May be a new biz opportunity there, Dave.  Come up with 3D models for bass bodies, make them fit a commercially available neck and hardware, then let people print out the body and sell them a neck/hardware kit.

Just the thing for 'direct to tree' laser recording.

Then people can argue about "which tree is the best for metal?"

I do 3d printing at work and so far the cost is pretty high, not only for the material, but a high quality printer. Also it take forever to print something large. I also have learned Cnc which is also time consuming, but can only really cut from one direction. Still you can do a lot of cool stuff that would take forever if you had to do it by hand.

The programming can take a lot of time and the software is costly if you want to do your own designs.
