There's an Explorer bass project for sale over on the Weber Speakers boards for $125. It's one of them that Gibson cut into pieces, but it looks like he has all the pieces. http://www.webervst.com/vstbbs/bbs.html
Just click on "buy n sell" on the lefthand menu. The seller's name is Dean. I'm not affilaited with him. ....Just thought it might be a fun project for you crafty guys.

A couple of years I was offered a good Gibson Explorer. Only point was a refin and no Gibson logo. But it was a real one for like 450 euros. I'm still sad I didn't bought it...

One has to ask the question "Why Gibson was trashing it in the first place?"

Good point. I remember the mr twistyneck auctions, some guys got excited at the thought of finding a gem but I never saw him offer anything worth the powder to blow to hell.

It has been a long time since those dumpster diver Gibson rejects popped up.  For a while on ebay there were dozens of them.  They were occasionally good for getting a neck you could steam off, but most had the necks and bodies cut.  That the Lord for scavengers!
