Hi folks

I headed down to the south of Scotland to a place called Moffat to participate in a bass bash (geeky gathering of bass fanatics and their equipment for the unaware).  I thought I'd keep the Gibson end up and took my 4 along with me (as well as my Guild B402-A and my Yamaha BB614).  Needless to say, I was the only one with Gibsons, but they got some appreciative looks and comments, the RD in particular.  Excuse the terrible photo:

The G-3 is hiding behind a G&L inspired custom build a friend made.  Later on we had a "bassyokey" (house band with each participant bass player going up and doing a song) and I took the RD up and had a go.

Apologies for bum notes.  I kinda wish I had remembered to put the Moog stuff on.

Anyway, it was a good laugh and I was happy to keep the Gibson name in the frame with some fellow bass enthusiasts with my small collection of beautiful freaks :)

That is an illustrious collection of beautiful ugly ducklings!

"Beautiful ugly ducklings" are my favorite type of bass.

Nice IV! The natural mahogany ones are the nicest looking, way better than the painted ones.
Why did Salvador Dali cross the road?
Clocks.

Am i wrong or does the custom builded have a MM p.u. in neck position and a P p.u. in bridge position? How does that sound? doesn't the MM cover the P while used together? I love strange p.u. combinations..

Nice collection, by the way.

They are neither MM nor P pickups - they are G&L MFD pickups.  The neck position is from a L-1000/L-2000/ASAT and the bridge one I guess is from an SB-1/SB-2.  I haven't had a good go through all the combinations yet - he's wired up all kinds of G&L inspired trickery like OMG mode and he keeps tinkering with it so not sure what it's like at the moment.  I wouldn't instantly assume that the big MFD will swamp the other one, although I've found that in most of the two pickup basses I've played, using both pickups together makes the bass sound more "polite" for want of a better word.  But then again, I'm the kind of neanderthal who uses a blend pot like a switch ;)
