THIS IS MY DREAM BASS!

I will send the pics to my upright bass luthier to get a quote on building one like that, only fretless.

The friction tuners are a potential problem. Ever tried to restring a cello? 1:1 tuners are a nightmare for someone used to 22:1. And I don't see fine tuners on that cello bass!

per the youtube video the guy still wants this beauty to 'twang'.

I haven't been to that store in maybe ten years. Very odd place, a mix of high end vintage at higher than typical prices and modern stuff like Soldano amps and John Brown's fretted/less bass. John does excellent work so I would expect a quality restoration. But as Ilan says, friction pegs and no fine tuners would be a problem.

Last time I checked out Solidbody's inventory, I was surprised to see they were selling a "Hobit". Either they are lowering their standards, or we are "Coming of Age".

Am I right in understanding that this an after-market mutation of an EB-1 body and possibly neck (with a new cello headstock)? Bewildering.

I don't think it is a EB1 body, it looks hollow.

That body looks twice the size of an EB-1 body, and it's hollow as Scott says. As I understand it, the body and neck are original from the factory but it was never a completed instrument, i.e. it's really not so much a restoration as a completion of the build with new components on the NOS body/neck.

I could always go look at it if you're seriously interested. Only about 15-20 minutes away.

Tuned in fifths?  :o Ssheeeeesh ....

Where does it say that this is tuned in fifths? If it were, wouldn't it just be listed as an electrified cello?
