John it doesn't say Gibson on the headstock. ;)

Neither did his Hotwire Funderbird

In times of great hardship and unwarranted , politically motivated witchhunt prosecution of that fine company, all you do is mock me for my unrelenting loyalty. A sad day indeed.

In my mind, a real TBird and a real Ric have one thing in common: neck thru. Accept no substitute.

I bet you might buy one if they came out with a Lull Thunder bird "G" version, that can play funk, jazz, rock, ground attack as well as a light bomber.

I do not really share this forum's crazed enthusiasm for Non-Revs - I prefer both the sound, construction and the look of a Rev. I've also not met a single person outside this forum - music-affiliated or not - that prefers a Non-Rev T- or Firebird to a Rev one. The guitarists I know actually refer to Non-Rev Firebirds as "not real Firebirds". The Rev is an iconic design with a rare structural trait for a sixties bass (neck-thru), the Non-Rev just a Ray-Dietrich-turning-in-the-grave mutant to save production costs.  :P I know they sound nice, but they don't look the part. Ugly ducklings.

For whatever reason I'm getting as many requests for info on NRs as JAEbirds lately and currently building two for customers: a set neck NR4 with a ThunderBucker MAX and a bolt neck NR5 with a ThunderBucker EX5.

Neither are for LBO members. I could easily come up with a list of 10 more NR inquiries and I run a very small operation.  The Epi bolt on Reverses have cheapened the Thunderbird Reverse 'brand' IMO.

Check out Thunderbuckerranch.com for the just released MAX.  If ThunderBuckers are the small block Chevy of pickups this is a Max.  2-3 db hotter output than a TB66.  Specifically designed for 3 piece applications.

I much prefer the Reverse shape as well and really don't disagree with the notion that the original neck thru design is best..........However, as time has gone on the many design variations that have appeared appeal to me as well, so Greco's, Orvilles, Epi's et al, I love 'em, and especially that while they do look similar the all sound different.

Uwe, I think you need to try some Ho's  ;)

I started on the 1976 Bicentennial Reverse. I have since played and acquired 60's reverse birds...For a while..I dumped both reverse 60's birds in favor of the non-reverse.....then...I wound up Jonesing for an original 60's reverse....(My Candy Apple Red Hamer 8 string is a reverse)...I now have a Pelham Blue '65 Reverse and a '68 Non Reverse Cardinal Red, both II's. Both sound Kick ass... I'll pickup my blue one and think..."Boy...this is incredible"...then pickup the red NR and think..."Man this is Killer"...then pick up the  blue one again and repeat the cycle......and it never ends...I think I got 2 good ones....BUT...I still LOVE the Reverse's best. I think. Oh man....Now I'm not sure.....I certainly do not know what makes a good Thunderbird  and what makes a dog.
I truly believe it's the Honduras Mahogany wood....the big headstock, the big tuners, the Bridge and tailpiece...the Pickups.....and the similar body styles.....both glued or neck through. Who really knows......

Wow - those MAX clips sound like what I experience with my '00 Blackbird pups that I've obsessed over - hotter, bigger sound, with a little more low end.  Sweet!
