I see this was posted on his Facebook wall Friday: "I just received some horrid news! One of my dearest Buddy's & a Great Builder of Guitars, my Pal Ed Roman dead Wednesday night after suffering another massive heart attack...just after spending 6 weeks in hospital! It makes me want to play that much better & study that much harder! SHEESH! I just talked to the shop today & no one said a thing! Ed Roman you WILL be missed Dear Freind! RIP!" No idea who the poster is or how she got her info. Several RIP posts since then, and a long thread at The Gear Page with no other confirmation besides the Facebook page.

Ed Roman had a friend?  Wonders will never cease.  Based on my only dealings with Ed Roman, as an attempted customer a few years ago, I'm not going to shed a tear.

Based on my one attempt to get information on a bass he had listed, I wouldn't have dealt with him either. He did have his fans, though. While I won't shed a tear either, I'll keep in mind that he probably has survivors who are grieving.

I have no information other than what I have read online over the past few years - 99% of which has been negative.  But as you point out, he surely has loved ones, friends and family who are grieving.

From Ed's own website - www.edroman.com

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ed Roman.

Ed Roman was a big personality. We understand that many people have questions regarding the circumstances surrounding his passing. His death however is still very recent, and is a heartbreaking shock to the family. We ask that you please be respectful of the sensitive nature involved with losing a loved one, and the mourning process that follows."

I'd dealt with Ed and had numerous conversations with him over the years. Always interesting and never held back his opinion. No matter what side of the Ed fence you were on, he did manage to be a player in the business thru five different decades and dealt with many name players.

I'm sure at this moment he is either arguing with God that he should be let into heaven...or with Satan that he should be in charge of Hell because he can build a better pitchfork.  :)

Either way, I sure got some nice axes from Ed and he got a couple from me as well.

RIP.

One thing he did do that was cool was making "Fool" basses.

I met him at the Messe, I didn't like him, but I guess he did some good things, so RIP.
