Okay I need a simple good sounding amp that I could use at home for recording and for small gigs. I have since sold my H/H combo because it was too large and had the anoying tendency to sound differently every time I turned it on.

So what do you guys say, what should I look out for and any recommendations?

My older son bought one last year (the 2x10 version) for band practice, and he's not satisfied with the performance. He says the distortion at volume is too high even for practice.

Chris P.

You mean there's a built-in distortion which is bad? Just don't use it! No problem!

Or does the amp distort bad at high volumes?

Dave W

No, I'm not talking about a distortion circuit, I don't think it has one. He bought it so he wouldn't have to lug his gig rig to practice. Now he's only using it at home because it distorts too much at the volume they use at practice.

Chris P.

Okay, I understand.

I think it has also something to do with your practise volume. I replaced a bass player temporarily in another band and they all played LOUD. Cranked up AC-30 and Bluesbreaker and a really loud drumkit. They all (but me) played with earplugs, but I didn't know they did.... My own band is much quieter!
