R.I.P. Steve Prestwich
« on: January 16, 2011, 05:38:14 AM »
I was saddened to hear of the death of Steve Prestwich. Steve was the drummer for Cold Chisel who were IMHO probably the ultimate Aussie Rock n Roll band. Steve was a great drummer but also responsible for a few of Chisels hits. Forever Now, Flame Trees, When The War Is Over and a few more. Chisel never hit the big time outside Australia  and New Zealand but here in Oz they are one of the biggest bands in our history. They would generally speaking pull bigger crowds than INXS or Midnight Oil for instance. Some of you may have heard of Chisels singer Jimmy Barnes who has had a solo career that has extended beyond our borders. Chisel were a raging rock band live although Steves songs were more ballads. Steve also spent a little time in the Little River band. He is from the same part of Adelaide that I grew up.  I only met him twice. Both times he was friendly and showed interest in who I was playing with and what projects we were working on. Nice guy and a great musician, sadly missed.

Apparently Uriah Heep did a cover of Steves song "When the war is over".

That is sad news.  I got introduced to Chisel back in the 80's - a true Aussie rock n roll band.
Couldn't go to a party without hearing girls belting out "You Got Nothing I Want".
Khe Sahn and Goodbye were other tunes that stuck to me throughout the years.

What a shitty weekend.  Steve Prestwich and Harvey James.  I'm seriously bummed today.
Cheers

iirc I saw them at the Marquee club, waaaaaay back when - packed to the gunnels with Aussies... RIP
