That's terrible! Condolences to his family.

it is a tradgedy indeed but the story sounds not quite right. the wive calls 911 and reports a burglar in the house that she will ' have to shoot'. the burglar is her neighbor who is a long distance running champ, in his sixties.. so both men end up shot and that's it? i think there will be more to come.

Billy was a wonderful guy and a great player. Worked with him for a few months about five years ago. Always positive and encouraging, although the situation we were in,musically speaking, was definitely way below his standards. He of course would never have said so. It just was not in his character.
BTW,yes there is more to the story. What actually appears to have happened makes it even more tragic, if that were possible.
RIP Billy.

Same thing struck me.  It may just be a very badly written story - but it makes no sense and the author made no effort to acknowledge the gaps in information.

Very big gaps for sure.  The alleged killer only lived 1/2 mile from Bill.  Same neighborhood basically.  Bill had a very large house so it may have been driving property values up?  The way property taxes keep going up every year in Travis County one never knows.  Maybe he was trying to help Bill from the attackers (while jogging by the property)?  I guess we'll find out soon enough.

If a neighbor they didn't know was the intruder, it sounds to me like the intruder may have been under the influence of alcohol. Hard to say until more comes out.

nofi

that explains why the intruder got shot but it doesn't say who shot either man. the wive appeared to have the gun so did she just spray the room in a panic or what.
