I totally think Design A begs for 4 inline tuners but on the G side like the Epiphone NRs of the 1990s.
Why did Salvador Dali cross the road?

Well, I don't know how I feel about the tuners under the headstock.  I'll have to look at a few to see how it strikes me.

"A" please. Lefty, 30" scale, seafoam green.

"Make it so".

Yes indeedy!

I could see that with full binding and inlays, no F holes, 2x2 headstock!
Oh my!

Just go ahead and put me on the list! :D

Well, I don't retire for a bit, so it may be awhile!

I like A. It would work with a slash F hole too.
Model One and Schallers?  Ish.

What do you all think:  set or bolt-on necks?  I can do either, but bolt-ons sure give me a lot more possibilities.

Since you're comfortable with either, do both.  Quite a bit more perceived value in a set neck for a non Fender type bass.

You might check out the Nash Guitars site.  He describes his philosophy (which is pretty much mine also),a luthier sets necks, all the rest of us are builders.  A lot of other interesting stuff like, "nobody has built a Fender since Leo left" and "what is a 'parts' bass?"

Ha, good one!  I do feel there's something a little more special about a set or neck through build.  Maybe I'll just stick with that and find a way to standardize my building process.  Right now, it's pretty idiosyncratic.

It seems to me it would be easier to build a neck thru than a set neck...standardize the thru neck and slap whatever wings on it, all your critical dimensions are taken care of.  And no worries about a neck joint.

Good point.  I'll have to mull that over.  Makes a lot of sense!

I'll leave the building to the builders... I just do the art... ;)

i think i have it as a shared folder.......if i don't then the password is bassplayer. it also shows how he angled his necks by laying them in the grove, and it shows the neck i have missplaced somewhere?
