Friend of a friends daughter
« on: August 18, 2008, 06:21:47 AM »
There is a young girl aged about 22 from here in Adelaide called Orianthi who is a guitar player She has had a contract with Warners and they basically did nothing for here, now she is with Geffen.

She has been playing guitar since the age of six, and has accumulated an impressive list of credits. She opened for Steve Vai here in Adelaide when she was 14, and when she was 17 she opened for ZZ Top. It was when she met and performed with Carlos Santana when she was 18, that doors really started to open. Now at 22 she is currently in Nashville writing with some of the world's biggest writers including Darrell Brown (Keith Urban), Troy Verges (Leann Rimes) and Angelo (Kings of Leon).
Pretty sure she has a deal with PRS as well.

Her Dad Con is a lefty and so is she. Con who is also an amazing guitar player got so pissed off with the restrictions that being a lefty put on him with guitar selection that when Orianthi wanted to learn guitar he told her that she would be learning to play only right handed instruments. His philosophy was, and I quote "theres no such thing as left handed piano and lots of lefties play piano".  If you watch her right hand you can kind of see that awkwardness in it but it sure dont slow her down.

Hope you guys enjoy her playing.

She is a great guitar player not only for her age and gender but she aint a bad singer either.

She's fluid in a natural, not hysterical sort of way. Nice choice of notes. I thinks she's heard some Gary Moore.
