No apologies needed! I appreciate the input because even if I think I thought of everything I'm usually wrong.  :)

Forgot to add: Yeah, my birth father has accomplished a great deal in his life and knowing him has been an incentive for me to reach a little further than I might be comfortable trying for.

And believe me, I want to be able to post about my grades because that means they will have been good ones!

George, hanging out with college students would be a dream job for most 45yo men.  Live the dream!

You're a great role model for your kids,George.   They'll learn firsthand that studying is very cool!

I'm not sure whether a sharp-witted Republican lawyer is something to welcome or dread ...

Also, the thought of George demanding his basses back and dragging me before Californian jury courts on the basis of some exotic longarm statute he dug out in long nights at the law school library, when his female co-students ("George, you are SO different from the other guys, you're SO mature, I also like the dresses you wake up in!") were not busy on him, robs me of my sleep already now ...  :-\

But, admittedly, "George Carlston, Esquire" does have a ring to it so all the best, mein Lieblingsrepublikaner!!! It's never too late for education and if it's in you it's in you. Good chance that the timing is just right now. I was a piss-poor law student (never thought I'd finsih) and then some girl broke my heart and I had three options (1) commit suicide, (2) join the French Foreign Legion, or(3) knuckle down to it and take that law exam. Being the wuss I am,  I went for (3) and what followed had me achieve grades akin to Malcolm Young waking up as Eddie van Halen one morning. I really should thank her for it one day.

Hey George, you might have already worked this angle but I'll toss this out anyway.  Many schools will give you "life" credits for you work experiences and trade or industry certifications - usually in the form of elective credits.  You might be surprised at just how much some schools will give.  Don't forget the CLEP exams as well, once again I apologize if you've already been here,  you might be able to test out of some classes as well.

Anyway, we could use some Republican lawyers - so as to keep the universe in proper balance and harmony ;D

And, Uwe is right, they mature, gray haired father image may very well work out for you ;)

Staring at that event horizon is a dirty job, but someone has to do it; something's going to come back out of it one day...

Good luck...it sounds like this will be an adventure.

That was always my other option but I just couldn't deal with people's drama as a full time job.

Uwe, your story doesn't sound so different from mine, it just took me 20 years more to come around. And don't worry, I'll only be coming for the one bird. The rest are safe in your Teutonic hands.  ;)

And I have to get through all that school before I can even think of coming up with the money, so you can breathe safely for a while.

Just the Look, George... you don't need anymore anguish in your life... ;)

... oh yeah, and none of that Enema Bandit stuff, either... (re those young co-eds...)

Well George, it seems like you have a better idea of where you are going with college than I do even though I am just about to start my fourth year. Good luck.

Congrats to you guys going back to school! You will all do well! Normally I'd say you'd make your parents proud, but in this case, "You'll make your kids proud" may be more appropriate!

Thanks for the advice. I'd seen CLEP exams mentioned but didn't know what they were so I spent an hour looking into it the other night after reading your post. I'll definitely take advantage of that where I can! Thanks for the advice. It's always appreciated.

Denis, I hope you're right. I want my kids to learn that school (or any type of constructive learning) is a good thing.

Wow Darrol, you're already a senior again? Time sure flies!

Well I should be a senior again but after two years at a local junior college, I transfered to a local tech school that could give me a Bachelors in Visual Effects and Digital Media. They only carried over 5 of my classes so I pretty much went back to being a Freshman. My plan right now is to just progress through the course while learning the stuff on my own so I can get a job before I graduate. With a two week break just starting, I am going to start teaching myself Maya so I can possibly go into 3D animation with an aim towards Pixar.
