A friend has asked me where can he get the best deal on a Les Paul Standard for his son. Any idea? He will be visiting in the US next month.

If he wants new or even used, Guitar Center would probably be the best bet.  They can match and beat just about any price out there.

If you're talking new, keep in mind that Gibson doesn't let anyone advertise a lower price than what you see at Guitar Center, Musicians Friend etc. You may find a local dealer who can beat that. Two I know of who used to sell lower than Gibson's minimum advertised price are E. M. Shorts and Chuck Levin's. Don't know if they still do. He would have to call because neither puts Gibson prices on their website.

Thanks guys, I'm forwarding your advice to my friend.

There a couple of '57's on greedbay at the moment, but might be slightly over budget... ;)

Good luck for their visit...

Staring at that event horizon is a dirty job, but someone has to do it; something's going to come back out of it one day...

One more thing to consider is sales tax. The online retailers like MF, American Musical etc. only charge sales tax in states where they have a physical presence. You could save 5% locally and wind up paying more due to state sales tax.
