For my Stones tribute band the chrome grilles on the SWR cabs are a bit too bling, so I bought some Ampeg cloth and made up removable panels using some 3mm hardwood panels, attached with tiny pieces of velcro.  Sorry for the poor quality mobile phone photos, but I hope you get the idea.

I guess I'm just an old fart but I much prefer the grill cloth to the modern barbeque grill ;)  Total transformation!

Build a barbie out of the old grills and do a permanant solution - definitely looks the part...

Yeah keep the Ampeg cloth. Looks way better.

I'll leave the grills on because they offer solid protection.  That's one of the reasons why I went to SWR cabs in the first place.  At the time, 10 years ago, most cabs available locally had cloth but no metal grills, and at the time I had a van with my PA that was packed tight like a 3D puzzle, so I needed cabs with metal grills.

I agree - few things are as reassuring as having a highly impact-resistant barrier between your speaker cones and the outside world.  I really like having a stout metal grille there.
