Always loved that song. His rasp/growl reminds me of that other guy who broke on through to the other side and now rests in Paris.

Interesting "Flying V" that is, slight Dali'nesque influence I dare say!

Wow 59. I'll be 51 in June. My cousin Cheryl just this Tuesday passed away from cancer at 55. We are staring mortality right in the face.................................sobering.

I turn 60 in June.  Don't think I'll be quite as comfortable with that as I was with 50.

OTOH, it's better than the alternative.

RIP Alex. Considering when The Letter came out, I had no idea he was that young.

My favorite song of his was an obscure one, The Box Tops' You Keep Tightening Up On Me.

I saw him once solo, about 1996 at the 400 Bar in Minneapolis. Nice show, talented guy.

I remember reading  or hearing on a radio interview) That he couldn't stand the way he sang The Letter, the gravely voice was all the producers input.

Very sad to hear.  They had a nice article in Classic Rock a few months ago featuring Big Star.  I always loved to listen to my sisters LP "Super Hits".  Used to wear out that LP!
