My son is doing a build from scratch---he wants it to be a single mudbucker, with just an on/off toggle.  What, of the commercially available mudbuckers are good, or, a suitable substitute for a real gibson (and reasonably priced)?

The Artecs you find on the bay are pretty close i've heard (somebody even made a comparison with the original, you can find it on the net, somewhere) and they're very cheap.

Edit: here you go: http://www.lindersson.se/BASS/jazz_mudbucker.htm

I googled mudbucker...didn't see an Artec...there's a Gotoh, though.

has anybody tried these out.  I would love to know if they are any good.  If so i would put them into 2 epiphone reiisues i have that have those really crappy muds.  I have been holding onto a late 60's mudbucker for a eb-2 project that will get started one of these years.....  If I could save that one fromthese two that would be great.
