Joined A HEAVY METAL band as their Drummer!
« on: July 28, 2009, 01:02:52 AM »
Got an audition with these guys that ROCK who've been goin' thru more drummers than Spinal Tap.
I think the last one spontaneously combusted. lol

They like me & my playing so I'm IN! Yay, Hooray & Fokken A!!!

Leader's got a helluva voice & writes pretty good & he SHREDS on guitar.
Here's his myspace:

www.myspace.com/evloud

The other guitarist is good too & plays a '68 Goldtop LP!
They both play thru '74 Marshalls!!!!
Bassmon is good, always in tune & is helpin' me a lot learnin' my parts.
He's got an Ampeg SVT rig with 4 20s & 1 15 in cabs he built himself.

I'm SO stoked!

This'll be FUN & will give me a chance to get onstage soon.
...& hopefully generate some income.

For those of you who may not know, I play a HUGE black vintage TAMA kit with 24" Double Basses!!
So far just got half of it in their studio. Most of their songs don't require 2 bass drums.
...or Octobans or timbales, bells & chimes an' all that.
Good basic straight ahead AC/DC & Accept type METAL.
Sound like Great White now & then but HEAVIER!
I'm LOVIN' it!!!

Congratulations Terry  :toast:
Sounds like your kind of band.

Now be careful not to get caught up in a bizarre gardening accident... ;)

I simply knew that Carmine Appice continued to lurk in you! Hope it works out fine. I always say it: Playing drums is just like playing an instrument ...   :rimshot: (quickly ducking away).

You mean he was watering Columbian produce at the time?

Damn. Today's practice didn't go so well. :-\
The bassman was late & he helps me a lot in this band,
Now he's takin' off for 10 days on vacation. Yikes!!!
It's gonna be GRUELING with him gone.
Still--I'm really happy & will do my damnedest to secure my place in this band!
These guys are GREAT!!! The singer is really amazing!
We're all working hard to get gig ready ASAP!!!!

Thanks guys!!!! Hopin' their drummer jinx ended with the one before me who spontaneously combusted.
Yeah I'm a crazy drummer but this bandleader wants every beat & crash & every nuance just like the recordings so it ain't free form flailing or AC/DC simplicity.
Gonna be hard work but satisfying & hopefully rewarding!!

The leader of the band aggravated an old knee injury & I'm goin' thru some setbacks myself so with the bassplayer on vacation the rest of us had to put off rehearsals together.
Brought my kit back to my studio about 10 days ago & have been goin' FULL TILT to get my drum chops back & become an athlete again. Got a new cd/dvd player goin' thru my P.A. to drum along to cds of this band & other METAL & Hard Rock bands from WS to METALLICA to Y&T to Trower to Zep....
When I went to a Tommy Aldridge drum clinic a few years ago he said he bicycles 300 miles a week. I'll never do that much bicycling but I've done enuf lately with my car & van broken down in my driveway that combined with bangin' away on Double Basses has made my hamstrings & the ol' biceps femorises (posterior thigh muscles) sore as fokk!!
Liftin' weights again too so my arms are sore too but don't worry you won't hear me complaining cuz it Hurts So Good!
Gonna burn off the belly fat too. Got on a scale & was surprised to see I'm up to 235. Yikes!!! I'm 6'5" so don't think I'm a big fat mofo, I just have a pot belly that I shouldn't have cuz I quit smokin' pot a long time ago. haha
Time for more push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups & fokk-ups!!!!

Studying the cds I've been given to learn & seeing a few things repeated quite a bit to HEAVY UP the music. Learning those is a big percentage of gettin' this material down. I'm also learning that what seems beguilingly simple is often something that requires the most work to get it right.
Talked to Vaughn (the band leader) quite awhile tonight on the phone & he said each of the many great drummers he's worked with have inspired songs that were built on their best chops so the main problem he's had is finding a drummer who can play all the subtleties of the different styles. I'm the man to do it, I just need to focus & pull some weeds like trying to be a guitar player heh
Sellin' off my 6 strings will make me put more time, energy & determination into DRUMS again!!
...& BASS too!!
Gonna put some ducats into upgrading a few cimbals tooo
