Calling all Victory Artist owners
« on: August 29, 2009, 08:46:49 AM »
Firstly, electronic engineer Kirkwood Rough has drawn up circuit schematics for the Gibson Victory Artist and Custom basses. Thanks kirkwood!

Gibson Victory Custom Bass schematic

But did you know there were two versions of the Victory Artist bass circuit? The most widely used (afaik) is marked Rev B, but another (which we are calling Rev A) also exists. Differences are subtle.

So, I am hoping you will all help me out - unscrew your scratchplate and tell me your serial number and whether it has the unmarked (Rev A) or the Rev B board. I'm compiling a list here, but you can post in this thread, and i'll compile it all later.

Thanks all, hope the schematics are of use to some of you  :)

Thanks, Jules. I'll pin this for a few days so (hopefully) none of the Victory Artist owners will miss it.

I have a hunch that all Rev A have the skinny small round classic mini toggle switches while the Rev B versions have the larger toggle in a, errrm, isosceles trapezoid (for you, Jules: trapezium) shape.

My mid 82 Custom and Artist both have that.

Do I really need to unscrew the scratch plate then?

I've only heard about 1 rev A bass (hence this thread) so my guess is as good as yours. The different switches may or may not have some relevance to what is underneath. So, yes please, help me out! You never know, you might discover the previously unknown Rev C circuit.....

Oh and another thing i'm interested in... does anyone have a non-Nashville Victory. I know the original 8 Victories made for NAMM came from Kalamazoo, plus a few made for artists, just wondering if (m)any more did.

So us Brits don't have a word for that first shape? (I know I don't!)

More grumble ... the Custom doesn't even have a board  :-\, just the choke! Serial no 8 174 2 533.

And my Artist has the Rev B board, serial no 8 203 2 515.

And my two Victory Standards (fretted and fretless) are from Nashville too. Both of them latish 81 models.

Oh well, I took the opportunity to switch strings on the Artist. Want to give those fancy pants Rotosound "Nexus Black Coated Alloy 52"  ??? a try!

For all my selfless troubles, I'm stealing one of your pics, Jules:

That blue mist Artist is the most beautiful Vic I've ever seen, what's the story behind that?

Kirkwood Rough? What a great name. I'd market condoms with it!  ;)

Thanks very much Uwe...

sorry, it was only the artist you needed to do... the custom, as you correctly stated has no board.

The blue one is a refin, and has a Rev B board. Kirkwood loves his Victories!

Cheers, I owe you one  ;)

Mostly Latin names, aint they...? so as that is technically a "dead language"...

Can somebody post a close-up of the aforementioned switch, please...?

Okay, I'm un-stickying this, one more bump in case anyone else has something to contribute.

Figures that no-one except gullible me would start screwing with their Victories!

We need just one victory and we're on our way
Prayin' for it all day and fightin' for it all night
Give us just one victory, it will be all right
We may feel about to fall but we go down fighting
You will hear the call if you only listen
Underneath it all we are here together shining still
