Uwe, what gauge strings do you have on that Epi?

Strange in between gauge (E = 107) the TI Power Bass strings come with. Generally I play 105, sometimes 100. Tension on the TIs is however not that strong, they just feel a little fatter to the finger.

I dont mind the gold & cream look, kind of classy.

Needs chrome covers though as you already know.

Freuds_Cat

I have now changed the strings from the 110 - 50's that were on it to my preferred 105 - 45. A few minor bridge adjustments and she's away.

I threw this thing together  last night in about 20 mins to be able to post here what the sound of my Explorer is like in a band situation because lets face it a bass sounds different whith a kick drum and other instruments all around it.
I apologise for sloppiness and my crud guitar playing but the point is the tone of the bass.

Very nice! Love that sound. That's the sound that first got me interested in the T-bird many full moones ago.

Freuds_Cat

I have ta tell ya that that sound does give me tingles and it is a sound that I cannot re-create on my Fender. It makes me play different, in a good way.

Now that I've gone through the process of dialing in the sound I like most from it using standard issue Epi pups I would love to hear how the T-Bird plus pups compare. According to Uwe, even better again.

Sounds great, even over cheap pc speakers!

Freuds_Cat

Thx Chris. It is a harder fretboard to work than most others I have, but I just have to learn to adjust my timing a bit. I'm going into licks that I would normally do without thinking on my Jazz and I'm not making it out in time to meet the beat on the Explorer. Nothing a bit of playing wont sort out I'm sure.

That recording sounds great, nice warm tone.

Quote from: uwe on April 06, 2009, 09:08:54 AMI play with the idea of having mine refinned and hardware upgraded to - yes - chrome, because I'm not too crazy about the gold hardware (looks fine on the korina laminate version our Aussie has, not so much on the bone white fin I have).

Black hardware would suit the bass even better in my humble opinion.
