Anyone tried the MEC Mudbucker?

Just wondering if anyone has had a play with one of these and what were your thoughts?

Note that it's a single coil. So it doesn't "buck" anything except your bank account.

I don't know. It could be an attempt to recreate the sound of the original brown cover (pre-1959) Gibson single coil that Jack Bruce has on his EB-1. Or not. The construction couldn't be the same since the polepieces on those were at one end, not in the middle.

I have some good contacts at Warwick. I could ask them more about that pick up? It wasn't on the site a couple of weeks ago, BTW.

Supposed to give a warm yet clear sound from the Star II reviews I've read. Not a souped up sound, but rather pretty and natural as it befits the instrument. Might be a worthwhile investment if you actually want to hear - rather than just feel - your EB-2 for the first time!

Looks like the cover dimensions are larger -- at least a little longer. Gibson dimensions (in metric) look to be 89 x 44, the MEC site says this is 95 x 55.

I am curious, but at these prices? I have great hopes in the next five years of buying one of the SG bass pups and one of these MEC things off ebay to see what the deal is. But that is hoping for the $100-used ballpark to show up. I suspect it is a conventional single coil like a 68 Tele Bass under there. I doubt very much that it would sound like the 50s mudbucker, which does not sound that far off a regular mudbucker. Godspeed to whoever is ready to take the pricey dive, but it is just a waiting game for me. I finally got an EB4 pup to mess with in the meanwhile.
