Zakir Hussain

Yesterday one of the most transcendent musicians of our time, Zakir Hussain passed away here in San Francisco yesterday. His mastery of the tabla was truly a driving force all over the world and in the many collaborations he participated in. A truly humble and beautiful  human. He was always kind and warm to all. Will miss him dearly. Very fortunate to have seen him since he was not even a teen and witness his development. His father, Allah Rakha  was a major inspiration to me as a young bassist living in Southeast Asia and Japan with his tabla playing and then came along his son Zakir with a new energy with that instrument. As you may know, others took keen interest as well. Take out your basses and play along.
