To me it's karaoke if it's not live. That being said, my favorite band in town uses tracks.

Ironically, karaoke singing IS live - it's just not always good!  But even the worst karaoke singer takes the risk being judged and laughed at - which is something Don Henley avoids on the canned Desperado.
