It's likely Pre-Chibson. I had run into early copies years ago that might have been made in the Philippines? I question the seller in the past & they insist that it had been in the family for years and there was no way it wasn't a Gibson. I didn't contact this guy.

Wow, I'm not even that deeply into EBs, and I immediately see so much wrong. The tuners look correct though.

I dunno about 'so much wrong" as far as hos go it's a pretty good fake (not excellent, but I have never really seen a much better fake of an EB - a 6 banger LP, yeah, but obviously the basses didn't get the same attention). I have seen fake slotheads before (and likewise found that they had a greater attention to detail than others; I mean if youre gonna bother with the slothead...). There's the usual giveaways, sure, but this is not too bad (not that even a real one is worth that much).

As for the tuners; not too many options there for the slothead so that makes sense.... or aftermarket replacement; look like they're not on straight).

It's hard to tell if the tuners are Schaller's or not. The bound neck is a giveaway. Where's the "Tilt-O-Matic" bridge?

Every slothead EB-3 I've seen, in person and online, has had a bound neck.

This one has the wrong logo (should be white MOP inlay with no dotted i), no varitone, wrong bridge, and possibly the wrong bridge location (neither 30.5 or 34 in.?). Also, the finish is way too opaque for a slothead and looks nothing like almost 50 year old nitro. No doubt not genuine mahogany either.

I've never owned a Slothead EB-3 & never noticed that the necks were bound! I stand corrected! Few Gibson basses have a bound neck. The only two I have are my Hobbits & the ES Les Paul Bass.

Ibanez made slotheads in the early 70's. I have'nt seen a bound neck on them though.
