30 years from now I more than likely won't have to worry about it.
Many experts have said The Big One will hit by 2010..... then there's all this talk about doomsday 2012.
It's gonna be a lot bigger than 6.7 I think. The Northridge quake was 6.7 & that was reported this way:
"This is not The Big One, folks. This is just a little side fault that we forgot even existed."
Another side fault line is the Newport-Inglewood fault line....about 50 miles long.
Here's a possible scenario if that one should slip, registering 8.3 on the Richter scale:
http://home.earthlink.net/~thepotstirer/id6.htmlI'm wondering if or WHEN the San Andreas fault line causes The Big One....
What will it register on the Richter scale? A 9 maybe?
It might even break the record of the 1960 Chile quake which was 9.5 !!!
The San Andreas fault line runs the length of California--about 800 miles!!!!!!!!
There are nuclear power plants built right on it tooo
Something for us Californians & visitors coming here to think about.
Who knows? I'd like to stay in SoCal a few more years & then retire to Hawaii.
Earthquakes in Hawaii sometimes make lava flow tho!
