If we could find it, linking to "Sign of the Times" would be appropriate here.  We said it a couple months back - we're going to see this more and more frequently.

And it's true that all the real icons of music are beginning to leave us.  The handful of artists that will reach that status over the past couple decades may be a lot fewer and harder to name.

A shock and a huge loss. I just respected his memory by ordering a bunch of his old 12" singles from the eighties. A thing that I was about to do a long long time ago but managed only now.

He had great B-sides on those and the A-sides weren't album versions either. How about 10 minute live takes of both "I Would Die 4 U" and "Mountains" or a 21 (!) minute version of "America"?

His Warner back catalogue has been in a sorry state for too long (for reasons perhaps Prince only knew?) but I have a sneaking suspicion that Deluxe Editions are on their way, starting with "Purple Rain".

One of my fav Prince tracks is "Head" from "Dirty Mind" album. Great tight funk groove on bass and drums, most likely played by himself.

I've always been partial to his darker less dancey/casio pop/funky numbers

I also love the cover version by Whale (the Foo Fighters version is bland and Cee Lo shoulda stayed away from it)

Quite a double bassdrum blast he gives at the end. The drum sound is crappy as hell but of course on purpose and it suits the song just perfect.
