When I was a twelve year old boy my parents bought me my first spanish guitar. I got my first guitar lessons from a teacher who was a real Flamenco fan.
He told me about this incredibly gifted spanish guitar player Paco De Lucia. And I wore down the record Friday Night in San Francisco by Paco de Lucia, Al Dimeola and John McLaughlin.
Paco De Lucia was my first guitar hero.

Today he died at the age of 66.
Rest In Peace, Paco De Lucia

Very Sad . I have a DVD of Paco, Larry Coreyell  and John Mc lauglin { I'm murdering the spelling} doing some acoustic guitar at Albert Hall from a few years back. All of them are outstanding and they complemented each other so well. There are parts of that concert that hit the "beyond belief level ". True Greatness.

R.I.P. I only really know the stuff he did in the early 80s with DiMeola and McLaughlin, but I was blown away by what I heard. Beautiful talent.

A very gifted musician, and 66 is no age now... qepd...
The random mind of a Silver Surfer...
If research was easy, it wouldn't need doing...
Staring at that event horizon is a dirty job, but someone has to do it; something's going to come back out of it one day...

Damn shame - I will miss him tremendously.

I've had the opportunity to play a few of his pieces over the years including Mediterranean Sundance and Entre Dos Aguas. Seen him a few times too and he was the real Flamenco deal. I just hope guys like Tomatito and other younger players in the genre continue his tradition and tour with full Flamenco troupes the way Paco did.
"I think it's only proper that I play until the last note of a set, then fall over and die. The band won't have to play an encore and they'll still get paid for the gig" (Dr. John)
