I can hardly believe it: My favorite singer of all time, Kelly Holland, has passed away.

He sang on the album Brother from Cry Of Love.
Kelly's voice was right up there with great singers such as Bon Scott, Aretha Franklin, Rod Stewart and Steve Marriott.

RIP Kelly Holland. Thank you for your great music!

Oh man ..... that one hurts. Although I discovered Cry of Love late, Brother (in particular) and Diamonds and Debris are in constant rotation chez moi. Any cause of death? I can't find anything other than the updated Wikipedia entry stating he's passed on.
"I think it's only proper that I play until the last note of a set, then fall over and die. The band won't have to play an encore and they'll still get paid for the gig" (Dr. John)

I believe he had contracted some kind of abdominal infection which caused serious liver failure.
I only heard of his health problems two days ago. But he'd been hospitalized fro two weeks already.

A shame. I got the news this morning from a friend in Raleigh. COL was one of the bright spots in the music of the early 90s, and "Brother" was by far the better of the two studio albums, thanks mainly to Kelly's voice. The live EP "August 25, 1993" is a treasure as well - love their version of "I Ain't Superstitious". IIRC, most recently he was playing drums and singing in a cover band called Crush.

I went to the Terry Bozzio drum clinic tonight here in Raleigh.
I bet several dozen people there knew Kelly personally.  They asked for a moment of silence before the clinic started, which was a nice touch.
