The very last photo is of a worker from the carbon black plant in Sun Ray, TX.  My grandfather worked in that plant and also the helium plant in the area before and during the war.  She tells stories of just how nasty the carbon was and how it got on and in everything.  The panhandle is very inhospitable place but my mom tells me that they felt fortunate that her father had a steady job throughout the depression.

Pic 34 looks like the Holston river just a few miles from my house. Not many rivers around here have a right  bend with a rising hill on the left. If that bend is the one I think it is, there are now two bridges, one of them I-40, and a cement factory, and a sewage treatment plant there now. East Tennessee was for all practical purposes, still living in the early 19th century until TVA and the Manhatten Project. My house is built from red oak timber cut as Oak Ridge grew up around the lab.  Pic 63's Douglas Dam isn't far away either. Douglas Lake is huge.

That photo looks like something out of a slasher movie!  that face could scare kids.
