New word to me: kerning. It means adjusting the space between characters in a proportional font. If it's not done, well....

As an English major and graphic artist responsible for labels, I NEVER use kerning for just such reasons!

Many moons ago,  before cable TV, there was a midnight old movie show on TV and their trademark screen was sort of a handwritten plain black and white thing  where the letter spacing was not exactly right on. It was" MIDNIGHT FLICK". Caught people by suprise more than once or twice :o ;D.

I've seen issues with a certain Mr Eastwood's name from time to time...

Several years back, I hand-wrote an order for a customer in Clintwood, VA. I have very neat handwriting, but the company's data entry person nevertheless made the same mistake, and that's how the order was printed. Fortunately, I caught the error prior to shipping.
The town of Clintwood, FYI, is located in Dickerson County.
