Fender bodies were always two or more pieces. The slip matching on two piece bodies was sometimes good enough that it was hard to tell.

Mahogany was available in wider planks but the majority of vintage Gibson bodies I've seen were two piece, and not always center seamed at that.

So they just stopped caring about matching the grain so much.  Interesting.

Doesn't matter when you're doing solid colors...only with transparent finishes.

Every 60's-70's Gibson EB series bass I have ever owned of held has been one piece.

My '65 and '67 EBOs are one piece but my '60 is two.  I owned it a long time before realizing it's joined on the centerline.

Matching grain was a priority for maple tops that weren't to be solid color. Otherwise they used what was available.

I have never owned a '59-'60 EB0 only the SG shape ones.
