It's been a rough year.  Watch the CBS Sunday Morning show this upcoming Sunday the 30th.  They feature an In Memoriam tribute on their last show of the year.  It usually brings tears to my eyes.

It's probably no worse than any other year, sometimes reading a full list really gets you down though. Same with watching the CBS Sunday Morning tribute.

Charles Durning, Jack Klugman and now Harry Carey Jr. just in the last week. Ages 89, 90 and 91 so they all lived long lives, still, it makes me sad. I had just been thinking of 3 Godfathers (IMHO one of John Ford's best), which was more or less a western allegory of the birth of Jesus. Harry Carey Jr. played "the Kid," the youngest of the three outlaws. It was a shock to see that he was 91, didn't seem possible until I remembered the movie was made in the late 1940s.

CBS Sunday Morning is one of the most interesting TV shows on the air.  I have watched it for years and there's always something that interests and amuses me.  It's the kind of TV that CBS used to do better than anyone - and still does on one morning per week.

Charles Osgood is a big reason it's so good.

You bet.  The guy has class, which is something that IMO CBS as a network has done a bit better job of maintaining than some other networks.  I should offer as a disclaimer that I have CBS ties through my alma mater and had lunch with Dan Rather at a Murrow College board function this fall.  Osgood's predecessor, Charles Kuralt, was also marvelous in his host duties.

For the younger set (both of you) here, CBS used to have daily news programs (rather than coffee shows) every day of the week.  As time has gone on, Sunday Morning is the only remaining program in the series, running from 1979 to present.  In my area it comes on at 8:00 AM Sunday and the content is on the light side; that's the time I'm normally at the breakfast table with the paper, thinking about what to fix for breakfast.  I usually make waffles, but I use french toast and eggs with hash browns as alternatives.

CBS Sunday AM is a most pleasant way to spend 90 minutes.  As it happens, the two-minute end segment, which is always video of nature with only ambient audio, was shots of the snow-covered Cache la Poudre river, which runs through Fort Collins about a mile from me.  That was an unexpected treat.

Plus my guitarist of 20 years  http://www.ronnicrooks.com/ ....one year ago today but they counted it as Jan 1, 2012 because the ME didn't show up until after midnight to pronouce her dead.

They last thing she did was set up her gear/tune up to play. We should all have the fortune to go out that way when it's time.
