I bought an electric drumkit

In order for me to record drumtracks. It's a Medeli DD505

It's basically a budget beginners kit, not really having that much options or perfectly convincing sounds but still it IS capable of much more sounds than any eighties Electric drumkit like those made by Simmons or Pearl.

It's also a breeze to record, you don't need overheads or individual microphones, just plug it in and you're ready to go.

Only I have to restrain myself a little and not to go all Phil Collins and put a gate on the drums in an efford to make them sound bigger, but then again I DO love Phil Collins' drumming...

Nice! I like the cimbals!! I've got a Roland kit that I've had about 10 years.
Haven't played it for a long time, but may use it for some more recording too.
It's got some cool odd & trippy sounds that may even find their way on to finished tracks.
Mostly I prefer my HUGE Double Bass TAMA Granstar kit with Octobans & timbales & a dozen cimbals. Haven't quite fully miced it right to record yet...but getting there....

Nice :) Electric drums are one of those things I was SURE I wouldn't like, but quickly changed my mind once I gave them a chance.
A buddy that I jam with now and then has a Roland kit in his home studio and I really did a 180 on my opinion. Most drummers still prefer their "organic" kits but quite often the other musicians involved would give their vote to the electronic kit.

Like any instrument , a whole lot has to do with the player. Once a drummer gets the hang of them, they have a boatload of capabilities that they don't have with their "organic kit". I've got to admit , the cymbals in particular, take a bit of getting used to ;)

Genesis "The Brazilian" live in 1987 with Phil Collins playing a Simmons drumkit, showcasing that typical sound.
