Always wanted to get one of those... For my Melody Maker with Evertilt bridge.

I ordered one today. I'll see what it does (if anything) for my Epi Tbird.
If it does nothing, I'll slap it on my next build and say it's a tin whistle or something.

IIRC Uwe ordered a few of these when they first came out and was pleased with them but saw no need to order more. Maybe a few more members have them, I just can't remember who.

Just different, not better or worse. I've had them on my Triumph, my Allen Woody und my Epi JC. They added some sustain and some general thudiness, but you really don't need either with a typica Gibson or Epi, they are blessed by nature in those regards. I took it off again on my JC and thought that changed sound for the better, the bass became livelier, more responsive again. I've given most of mine away. Don't think they will survive the next string change either on the Triumph or the Woody. There is nothing wrong with the three point that would need shenanigans like that and the "strings won't intonate if the silk threaded part runs over the saddle"-thing is a silly myth anyway. It had nothing to do with me trying these cylinders out, I was just curious.

I had a machinist buddy make me some a few years back . PIA to switch  back & forth, re string etc. Ditto what Uwe says. Its peronal taste in my opinion . One thing is you may only be able to lower  bridge so far on some  bass. Not worth $30. IMHO.
It takes a very deep-rooted opinion to survive unexpressed

Sorry to contradict you mein Führer, but I've got 'm on all my 3-pointers. I got one off evilBay some 5 years back and had some duplicates ( "mock-bars"  ;D) made by a Dutch Bass Guitar Forum brother .....  Just hate to see the silk on my bridge saddles ( looks messy, don't you know  :-[ ) and to my ears that very same silk muffles the string's high end, which in itself is a very big No-no where decendants of the ol' Mud are in play .......

Experience is the ultimate teacher

Got one on my Casady, it's OK I guess. Does keep the silk off the saddles, gives me a little bit more room to intonate.

"and to my ears that very same silk muffles the string's high end"

Scientific evidence?!!!  When you scrape it off, does it sound brighter?  ??? There is hardly any movement left in the string so close to the bridge, I doubt that there is anything audible.

But to the discerning eye it might look messy, true.

It is no so much the silks that bother me. They could be scraped off if they were the only problem.
It's the double wound part that is the problem. It makes the string fit very poorly in the saddle slot. Especially on the E string that needs to travel all the way back towards the end of the bridge, the double wound part will run over the saddle.

I use the mod bar (made by that Dutch forum guy) on all my thee point bridges. And on the Evertilt of my Les Paul Bass.

If anyone is interested in trying one of these "bridge bars" out, I have one (chrome) that can be passed around among interested Outposters.
Send me an address, and I'll ship it out.
