That reminds me, when I was growing up in Houston there was a humor columnist for the Chronicle named Allison Sanders. He called himself The Motorman, and if a reader wrote or phoned in a funny story he could use, he'd call them a Motorman's Friend.

Years later, I read that in the old days a Motorman's Friend was a urinal bag with a tube that a streetcar conductor (motorman) would strap to one leg since he couldn't take a bathroom break. Makes sense but Sanders never let on how he was "honoring" his readers.
