BTW, the generator is a story in itself. I had one, but at the beginning of the season I couldn't get the damn thing running - despite meticulously disassembling and cleaning the carburetor. I got the new unit the day before the storm hit - but even that required a good measure of luck, perseverance and a raised voice at Home Depot.

I'm with ya there.  Seems like if you don't start the generator once a month or so, it takes luck, swearing and Ether to get it going.
Hours before the storm hit here, I was spraying Ether in the carb and pulling like crazy - I hadn't even tried to start it in years.
It finally lit, and I ran it for 30 minutes or so.  It's a small one (11HP/5500 W, but it would help in an emergency)
Thanks goodness we didn't actually need it.

Yeah. Mine would kick right over on ether, but die out after it burned through it. There's something amiss in the carb - if you shove a fuel line down its throat, it will run (poorly). The bowl is filling with gas (insert joke here), but it's not getting to the combustion chamber for some reason. Unfortunately, that unit is made in China by a company that has gone belly up, and the manual has zero info on the engine manufacture. My new one is by Briggs and Stratton - they shouldn't be going anywhere anytime soon. BTW, B&S recommends starting it once a week.

up in CT we got blasted pretty good.  No much flooding but the wind damage was extensive. Little bit of water under the garage doors heading toward some speaker cabs and such but towles were enough to stop the flow.  However... Beautiful tree lined streets and 1-2 acre wooded lots do not survive heavy winds very well.  Today was the first day i could get off my Cul De Sac and only one direction is open.  the other direction has 60 foot oak trees laying across the road or dangling from other trees or power lines. And that road is a major access road to  the road that runs NS through many of the towns.  It turns out thanks to the bad winter and snow removal that all the towns in fairfield county are out of money for overtime and outside help.   I am hoping to get some power by the holiday on monday.  Turns out they actually just shut down all the power to several towns as power lines where laying on the ground and in some instances on houses.  Without power and well water simple things like flushing a toilet are troublesome.  No gig this weekend so that is good..  maybe my name for now is smelly jim instead of jumbo....
