Look just like they look on the later ones.

I think it's the burst and the way it's lit in the case, make the horns look sharper.

In essence, by the time of the second body shape version, the Rippers looked like pregnant SGs or like bloodsucking ticks after a good meal. The sharpened the horns in an attempt to defenderize the look I guess.

It must be an optical illusion, because they certainly look unusually pointy to me.

I was following the auction to see where the price ended up, because the 'burst Ripper I bought on Talk Bass last week was only $1350.

The treble side horn looks pointier than it actually is, it's shadowed by the case edge. Bass side horn looks normal for a later one.

SKATE RAT

that looks extra pointy. and the strap peg shouldn't be on the tip like that.

I thought of doing that with the strap button, I don't realy like the way the strap has to wrap round the horn. But I thought they probably did it like that for a reason, like the point wouldn't take the weight. Assuming logic in the Gibson design dept might be a mistake ...

that little wrap around is great! your strap never comes off!

Relocating that strap pin to the point of the horn looks remarkably dangerous to me. It looks like it's begging to break the tip of that horn off.
