My fave in exiting pick playing will be Graham Maby ...... Check out Someone Up There on Joe Jackson's Beat Crazy album, it's one of those parts I could play fingerstyle on a good day. Most days I fail miserably ......  ;D

So true.  I still marvel at his work on Look Sharp & I'm the Man.

Personally, I don't care if someone plays bass with a pitchfork...it does not matter.  If it sounds good, that should be all anyone should care about.

As long as you don't slap it.

I use a pick on Jack the Ripper - works best for me.

And how about Tom Petty's "Runnin' Down a Dream"?  I don't think that bass line CAN be played without a pick.

Snobs who turn their noses up at pick (or fingerstyle) aren't worth listening to.

I played with a pick for probably 12 years.  Switched to fingers mid 80's and now play probably 99% of the time with fingers.  Most gigs i stick 1 or 2 on the mic stand holder but never actually use  them.  I use to have a few tunes that i would use a pick on but the change in tone and volume would bother me.  I made me develope use of all digits on my plucking hand so i can pull off a tune like I'm the Man without a pick.  I will break it out whenever my Ric shows up
