For a successful example of what it can do, see This Guy Has My MacBook

Seems well worth the dough.

Call me paranoid but the words "We also collect lots of nerdy network information, but we won't bore you with the details!" does concern me a bit.

The thing that sucks about 'This Guy has my MacBook' is that the Oakland Police didn't have the resources to help him get his MacBook back until after being contacted by Good Morning America. The next guy might not be so lucky.

They aren't going to be able to track it without collecting information. Still, it would be a good idea to read their privacy policy.

Funny how that works. I do understand that a big city police department can get overextended, but this guy had all the evidence for them. Hard to see why they didn't run with that right away.

I've lived with vehicle trackers for over a decade but a salesman was car-jacked a couple of companies back and they were relaying live info to the police - there only statement was "Let us know when it comes to rest and we'll  send someone round to check" - they just did not want to know...

I live in Oakland - they lost 160 officers in the past year! Now unless it's a life-threatening situation, you have to file police reports by internet! I've acquired an internet stalker over the past couple of months - OPD just says "file it by the internet" - the only interaction I have had is with someone named "online officer"...
